It’s Squirrel Time.
“Squirrel You Know It’s True” starts out with an issue “Almost Got ‘Im”-style issue, in which a group of hostages passes the time waiting to be rescued from the Statue of Liberty’s head by making up stories about who they think Squirrel Girl is. After that, a talking hippo attacks, and Squirrel Girl meets Chipmunk Hunk, Koi Boi, and…GIRL SQUIRREL who is a superhero squirrel. And whom Doreen does not trust!
Oh, and Thor and Odinson and Loki show up. And Cat Thor. It’s aTHORable.
North, Henderson, and Renzi’s second Squirrel Girl trade is every bit as delightful as their first. (Maybe refer back to what I said about it.) Doreen Green remains chipper and charming, and growing cast is a perfect fit for the upbeat, optimistic world Squirrel Girl inhabits. By the same token, the art continues to be bright and joyful. The varying styles in issue #5 have me wanting a ‘90s-era Squirrel-Clone Saga mini-series.
If you like fun, check out this book. (I’d start from the beginning, but there’s no reason you couldn’t start with this trade.) And if you don’t like fun, well, God, Jed, I don’t even want to know you.
